This book contains the reminiscences of nine women who lived at Los Alamos during the Manhattan Project about their lives and experiences there. The women, who all witnessed the first explosion of an atomic bomb from their desert homes, were wives of scientists working on the bomb. They describe the good and bad aspects of living within the gigantic, secret Manhattan Project. They discuss their arrivals, housing, jobs, and recreation. Their accounts paint a picture of day-to-day life at Los Alamos. Introductory biographies for each of the women are included.
