Released by the Office of the Secretary of Defense of the United States, this book details the problem of nuclear, biological, and chemical (NBC) weapons proliferation worldwide. The first section of the book analyzes the proliferation problems in areas including the Middle East and Russia, and notes what the interests of the United States are in those locations. It also describes transnational threats, such as terrorism. The second section deals with the Defense Department’s reaction to those problems, and notes the efforts being made to prevent proliferation and to protect the United States. The book contains a glossary and numerous tables, maps, and photographs. It is introduced by Clinton administration Defense Secretary William Cohen.
