This book portrays the lives and work of people employed in the laboratories responsible for developing nuclear weaponry in the United States. Interviews with employees and former employees of Los Alamos National Laboratory and Sandia National Laboratory provide insight into the responsibilities and stress involved in working with radioactive material and nuclear warheads. The scientists and engineers interviewed maintain a range of political, religious, and moral opinions about the atomic bomb, and some of them express viewpoints completely opposing the existence of weapons laboratories.
