PUBLISHERAmerican Chemical Society
CITYWashington, D.C.

This retitled book is a translation by Fredrick Seitz of Ten Years in A Golden Cage, Nikolas Riehl's memoirs of working on the Russian atomic bomb project after World War II. Riehl was a German chemist who worked on producing pure uranium for the Germans during World War II and was taken to Russia shortly after the German surrender. Riehl provides interesting insights into the Russian effort that include interactions with top Russian scientists and engineers. In addition to his translation, Seitz provides an introduction that places Riehl in the context of German science before and during World War II. Many photographs illustrate the text.
