TITLEJ. Robert Oppenheimer: Shatterer of Worlds
PUBLISHERFromm International Publishing Corporation
CITYNew York, NY

This book is a full account of the life of J. Robert Oppenheimer, “the father of the atomic bomb” and scientific director of the project to build the bomb. It chronicles this extraordinary man’s life from birth to death and devotes nearly half of the chapters to his part in the Manhattan Project. It also devotes considerable space to discussing his problems with security clearance and supposed espionage after the war. The book is different from other biographical accounts in that it thoroughly discusses Oppenheimer’s crisis of conscience after the dropping of the bombs and his efforts to steer the government away from the development of the H-bomb. Written to accompany a Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) documentary on Oppenheimer, it contains many photos.
