This film depicts an important part of the life of Madame Curie, and is a romantic adventure showing two people’s dedication to proving a scientific theory. The movie begins as Marie, a physics student in Paris, meets Pierre Curie. After Marie graduates, Pierre Curie asks her to marry him, and they begin working together in his lab. Together they discover and isolate a new radioactive element that they call radium. After they finally prove the existence of radium, Pierre Curie is killed in an accident. Madame Curie bravely continues their work after his death. Greer Garson and Walter Pidgeon portray Marie and Pierre Curie. The scientific aspects of the film are well done and reasonably accurate. The film was nominated for seven Academy Awards including Best Picture in 1944.
