Jack Perkins hosts this “A&E Biography” film detailing the life of J. Robert Oppenheimer. Born in New York City in 1904 to a wealthy Jewish German family, Oppenheimer became one of the world’s top scientists. He graduated from Harvard University and taught at the University of California, Berkeley. Later General Leslie Groves appointed Oppenheimer as the director of the Manhattan Project. Colleagues and students of Oppenheimer, including Robert Serber and Philip Morrison are interviewed in the film. Along with biographers Robert Rhodes and Priscilla McMillan, they tell the story of Oppenheimer’s rise and fall in the context of controversies about the atomic bomb.
