TITLEThe 1967 Six-Day War: New Israeli Perspective, 50 Years Later
DATE ACCESSED8 January 2017

This online article reviews Israel’s nuclear weapons policy during the 1967 Six-Day War, when scientists and technicians assembled that country's first crude nuclear device. Interviews with Israeli military leaders include Brigadier General Yitzhak Yaakov, head of Israel’s nuclear weapons project, and Chief of Staff Tzvi Tzur. The interviews provide insight into the nation’s secret nuclear posture during the War. The author concludes that the episode was not one of nuclear history’s “close calls" because Israel had no plans to use the weapons. Nevertheless, assembling them was an important moment in Israeli nuclear history.
