This report looks at the 65-year history of the United Kingdom’s nuclear weapons program. The author specifically recalls the incidences that can be categorized as dangerous, accidents, or near accidents. Its purpose is to remind the public of the risks posed by nuclear weapons and to alert politicians and decision makers to the need to eliminate risk. Chapters describe events occurring during the production, transport, and handling of the weapons as well as accidents involving aircraft and submarines. The list of accidents includes those associated with the United States’ weapons based in the United Kingdom. A final chapter provides recommendations for reducing future incidences.
