The 2016 website edition of the Nuclear Matters Handbook, issued by the U.S. Office of the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Nuclear Matters, provides an extensive guide to the elements of nuclear deterrence as well as approaches for sustaining U.S. nuclear forces and the nuclear weapons stockpile. Its chapters address U.S. policy and strategy for deterrence, the evolution of the U.S. nuclear deterrent, nuclear forces and weapons, weapons infrastructure, stockpile management, command and control systems, counteractions to nuclear threats, and international cooperation on nuclear security. The contents are well organized and contain detailed information complete with numerous illustrations and tables. Appendices provide extensive information on weapons life-cycle, basic nuclear physics and weapons effects, nuclear testing, nuclear survivability, treaties and agreements, and classification of nuclear information. The handbook also contains a useful glossary of terms and a list of acronyms.
