In this collection, the editor presents accounts of the atomic attacks on Hiroshima and Nagasaki from 25 survivors, the "hibakusha". The work is staunchly opposed to the attack on moral and ethical grounds; that opposition is echoed in each survivor's story. The survivors describe in detail their experiences, the human costs of the atomic attacks, and their attempts to cope with the terrible situations they faced. An introduction by Naomi Shohno, a nuclear physicist, provides scientific and medical background. Also included are 24 pages of photographs of people shortly after the bombings and survivors in later life. |
