TITLEThe New Nuclear Forensics: Analysis of Nuclear Materials for Security Purposes
PUBLISHEROxford University Press
CITYOxford, England

This book surveys nuclear forensic analysis as a scientific discipline and in its application to issues of international security, from 1945 to the present (2014). Written by nuclear forensics experts from Finland, Germany, Hungary, Sweden, and the United States, the chapters are grouped into two major sections. The first considers the process and methods of nuclear forensic analysis – including mass spectrometry and gamma ray spectrometry – and sample characteristics, nuclear and radioactive signatures, and post-nuclear explosive environments. The second section contains detailed case studies of forensic analysis involving nuclear tests and illicit trafficking in nuclear materials. Tables, graphics, and appendices support the text. This book is part of the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) Monograph Series.
