In this two-part series, a young Australian physicist follows the history of uranium from its discovery in the 18th century to the present (2014). In narrating the story, he travels to countries impacted by uranium. Providing an interesting mix of history, sociology, and physics, the film includes information on the discovery of the element, radioactivity, the production and use of the atomic bomb, the role of nuclear weapons in the Cold War, and the disasters at Chernobyl and Fukushima. The film fails to include any mention of plutonium, which is produced from uranium and is an important component of today’s nuclear weapons. The film can be streamed or purchased as a DVD.
