TITLEThe Long Shadow of Chernobyl
PUBLISHEREdition Lammerhuber
CITYBaden, Austria

This dramatic collection of 118 photographs documents the Chernobyl disaster through images of its victims, the desolation of the exclusion zone around the accident site, and the nearby abandoned city of Pripyat. The author, a photographer for National Geographic Magazine, divides the book into four parts: Victims, Pripyat, The Zone, and Reactor #4. The photographs are drawn from the author's nine visits to Chernobyl and the surrounding area over a period of 20 years. An essay by former Soviet Premier Mikhail Gorbachev introduces the work. Sometimes not easy to view, the stunning images evoke the sobering reality of the worst nuclear disaster in history and its ongoing consequences. The essay and captions for the photographs are in English, German, and French.
