This 2008 book, by a former advisor to the U.S. Presidents Clinton and George W. Bush administrations, provides an insider’s picture of U.S. nonproliferation efforts and an analysis of nuclear proliferation and terrorist threats. It is divided into three sections. The author first presents the challenges, successes, and short comings of cooperative nonproliferation programs of the U.S. Departments of Defense and Energy. He then uses case studies to analyze U.S. nonproliferation policies employed with respect to Iran and Pakistan. The book concludes with the authors’ recommendations for nonproliferation policies and programs.
