TITLEThe Israel-Argentina Yellowcake Connection
DATE ACCESSED23 March 2014

This National Security Archive website contains a series of 43 annotated documents associated with Israel’s purchase of uranium oxide, known as “yellowcake,” from Argentina during 1963-1964 and attempts to acquire additional quantities from Gabon in 1965. Only recently made available, the documents reveal the intensity with which Israel pursued material for its nuclear weapons program. The U.S. government learned of the purchase from Canadian intelligence and its embassy in Argentina. The Israeli government refused to provide the U.S. any information on its contacts with Gabon or on the Argentine transaction.
