This book focuses on the ways in which public perceptions of nuclear risk have changed in response to the major events associated with nuclear energy throughout its history. Arranged in short, readable chapters, the book is a recasting and expansion of the author's 1987 work, Nuclear Fear: A History of Images, which provided in-depth treatment of pre-1988 topics. The newer book puts a long period of nuclear history into perspective. The author is most interested in showing how people's response to imagery affects their understanding of nuclear issues and undermines an approach to those issues that is based on reason rather than emotion.
