This edition of The Economist contains a special report that focuses on the current environment and future prospects for nuclear power a year after the Fukushima nuclear disaster in Japan. It consists of an introduction followed by a series of articles addressing the history of nuclear power reactors, safety concerns, handling nuclear waste, the global future of nuclear power, the fate of new reactor technology, and the role of nuclear power in the global energy portfolio. The report indicates that economic realities as much as issues of safety have darkened the future for global nuclear power. However, It indicates that there may be potential for growth in China and South Korea.
