TITLEA Guide to The Nuclear Arms Control Treaties
PUBLISHERLos Alamos Historical Society
CITYLos Alamos, NM

This 344-page book reviews the nuclear arms control proposals and treaties negotiated from the end of World War II to 1999. After a brief overview of the nuclear arms race and arms control negotiations, the main part of the book examines each agreement in depth, including the nuclear test ban treaties, the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), the SALT Treaties, the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty (INF), and the Strategic Arms Reduction Treaties (START) I & II. The details of each treaty are also provided in chart form. One chapter explains treaty verification methods. In the conclusion, the author summarizes the discussions ongoing in the late 1990s regarding START III and some draft proposals for further nuclear weapons reductions. The document was prepared for the Los Alamos National Laboratory as a background source on arms control agreements.
