TITLENuclear or Not: Does Nuclear Power Have a Place in a Sustainable Energy Future?
PUBLISHERPalgrave Macmillan
CITYNew York, NY

The purpose of this edited volume is to inform the debate on nuclear energy as an energy source for the United Kingdom. Despite the focus on the UK, much of the content is applicable to other nations as well. Chapters are written by individual UK policy experts in energy, business, and technology. The opening chapters provide a good introduction to the physics and technology of nuclear power as well as a brief history of the opposition to nuclear power in the UK. The remaining chapters are grouped into five major sections: framing the energy debate, the future of UK energy, key nuclear issues (radiation hazards, waste, security and economics), nuclear energy in Europe and beyond, and conclusions regarding the future of nuclear power. References follow each chapter, and the text includes figures, tables, and notes on the contributors. The book was first published in 2007 and is part of an Energy, Climate, and Environment series.
