This report outlines the nuclear programs of 25 countries around the world to assess the status of nuclear power capacity in 2009 and determine the likelihood of nuclear industry expansion. The report includes a table of data on those countries' operational nuclear reactors, with such information as average age of reactors, number of reactors planned and under construction, and the percentage of the nation’s electricity provided by nuclear reactors. The article interprets the data and forecasts that the number of operational reactors worldwide is likely to decrease between 2010 and 2030, arguing that substantial growth in the nuclear sector is unlikely due to workforce and financial scarcity. Originally published in the November/December 2009 issue of the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists, the report may be downloaded as a PDF.
