This 1996 report summarizes the findings of the Advisory Committee on Human Radiation Experiments regarding an investigation into the possibly unethical conduct of the U.S. government and government-sponsored institutions in ionizing radiation in human beings at the height of the Cold War. The Committee conducted an extensive inquiry into the history of government-sponsored human radiation experiments and intentional environmental releases of radiation between 1944 and 1974. The report is comprised of four sections, including a history of the ethics of human research, case studies, contemporary projects, and recommendations for future conduct. The book includes a glossary, acronyms and abbreviations, and a citizen’s guide to the U.S. National Archives. The authoring committee was founded in 1994 at the behest of then U.S. President Bill Clinton. |
