Written by James F. Byrnes, Secretary of State during World War II, this autobiography describes his role in world leadership at that time. Split into four parts, it discusses his introduction to world leadership during the war, his role in making treaties after the war, how a few of the treaties were left unfinished, and the work ahead of him. The first section deals extensively with the Yalta and Potsdam meetings. The last section is perhaps most interesting, because he offers his opinion of the control of atomic energy and attempts to answer two questions: “What Are the Russians After?” and “Where Do We Go From Here?”
