This website, part of the United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), provides information regarding dirty bombs, also known as radiological dispersal devices (RDD), and explains their design, risks, use as weapons by terrorists, and other common concerns. The fact sheet contains basic information at the top, and includes a readable question-and-answer section to address common public concerns regarding dirty bombs and their potential to cause destruction. Additionally, a list of contact information for a variety of federal agencies that deal with RDDs is provided. The fact sheet is one of many produced by the NRC, all of which are available online free of charge.
