TITLEAtomic America: Technology, Representative and Culture in the 20th Century

This web page, part of the Albuquerque Teachers' Institute website, contains six separate curriculum units from a seminar conducted in 2000 on Atomic America. Designed for middle and high school teachers, each unit describes the age group for which the lessons would be appropriate, contains necessary background information, and includes activities to help students master the material presented. The various units contain activities that have been field-tested by the teachers who designed them and often incorporate links to other online references. Topics are interdisciplinary and include the history of the Los Alamos National Laboratory, the science and mathematics behind radioactive decay, the relationship between Atomic America and Native Americans, the health consequences of radiation, and a multimedia inquiry on the development of Atomic America. Lessons may be downloaded from the website.
