TITLEU.S.- UK Nuclear Cooperation After 50 Years
CITYWashington, D.C.

This book examines the 50-year history of nuclear cooperation between the United States and the United Kingdom, the beginning of which is marked by the United States-United Kingdom Mutual Defense Agreement (MDA), signed in 1958. Comprised of histories, analyses, and anecdotes authored by experts in nuclear technology and defense, it is intended as a resource for nuclear experts in an array of disciplines. The book highlights the diplomatic and technical cooperation between the two nations with essays on the difficulties involved with forming an Anglo-American nuclear partnership, accomplishments that resulted from the technical cooperation in the MDA, and future prospects for the Anglo-American nuclear partnership. The final section contains brief summaries of interviews with such prominent figures as Des Browne (UK Secretary of State for Defence), Harold Brown (former U.S. Secretary of Defense), and James Schlesinger (former U.S. Secretary of Energy), among others. An appendix contains the text of the MDA, and notes on the authors and editors are also included.
