This first-hand account tells the story of the successful effort by the Norwegian underground during World War II to sabotage the Nazis' Norwegian heavy water plant at Vermork and their heavy water supplies. The purpose of the mission was to derail any research and experimentation with heavy water that might allow the Germans to create an atomic bomb. Hauklid, one of the Norwegian saboteurs, relates the events leading up to the raid and explains how the British aided the mission. He also describes the actual attack on the plant and on a ferry transporting barrels of heavy water to Germany.
