INACTIVE: 2008 report has replaced this and is in the Alsos library. This report from the National Research Council reviews four programs of the Office of Nuclear Energy in the U. S. Department of Energy (DOE): 1) Nuclear Power 2010; 2) the Generation IV reactor development program and Nuclear Hydrogen Initiative; 3) the Advanced Fuel Cycle Initiative and Global Nuclear Energy Partnership (GNEP); and 4) the Idaho National Laboratory. For each, the report includes a description of the program, an assessment of priorities, and recommendations for future work. The report concludes that all but the GNEP should be continued, and that DOE should replace GNEP with a less aggressive initiative. Dissenting arguments, an alternative to technology proposed for GNEP, and biographical sketches of review committee members are included in appendices.
