PUBLISHERNew Amsterdam
CITYNew York, NY

This book is about the effects of nuclear testing done by the United States in the South Pacific, with emphasis on the atolls of Rongelap and Kwajalein. The first part, which comprises more than half the book, describes the islanders' experiences with nuclear testing, mostly framed in their own words. The second part covers U.S. policy regarding Micronesia and the history of the Compact of Free Association signed between the two countries, which allowed nuclear testing to continue. Finally, the author proposes ways to end nuclear testing in the South Pacific, including indigenous solutions.
