This book presents an analysis of India’s nuclear policy of minimum deterrence. The author begins by laying out the underlying principles of minimum deterrence; he then describes India’s current attitudes toward nuclear weapons. Next he addresses four nuclear topics and how they relate to India: the threat of use of nuclear weapons, missile defense systems, nuclear terrorism, and the relationship between deterrence and democracy. Finally, after laying out four deterrence models and describing how they might apply to Indian foreign policy, the author concludes that whether India will continue to use the minimum deterrence model of nuclear strategy is uncertain.
