PUBLISHERUniversity of Illinois Press
CITYChicago, IL

In this book, the sons of the convicted spies Julius and Ethel Rosenberg share their recollections of their parents' trial and execution and of their own childhood and young adulthood. The first part, by Michael Meeropol, describes the impact of their parents’ arrest on their family, the time the boys spent with their grandmother, and their reactions to their parents' execution. The second part, by Robert Meeropol, covers the years 1954 to 1974 and discusses the brothers’ lives after their parents' deaths, including their adoption by Abel and Anne Meeropol, their college years, and their involvement in the New Left. In the last part, both sons re-evaluate their parents' case and argue for their innocence. Included is a brief chronology of the important events that occurred in the course of the Rosenberg case from 1950 to 1957. Much of the Rosenbergs’ prison correspondence is reproduced in the book.
