This book presents a historical retrospective of the nuclear world from the 1950s through the 1990s, focusing on important events and possibilities for disarmament. The author reviews events with potential nuclear consequences from the Cuban Missile Crisis to disputes between India and Pakistan. Additionally, using dialogues and excerpts from essays and reports, he presents and analyzes many of the attempts to halt nuclear proliferation, especially policies and diplomatic relations during the Cold War arms race. The author, Michael Foot, served in the British House of Commons and led the Labor Party in the 1980s. The book contains three appendices containing some of Foot’s pertinent works.
