TITLEThe Day After
RUNNING TIME127 minutes

This made-for-television film, centered in the Kansas City area, is a fictional account of a nuclear war between the United States and the Soviet Union. What begins as a conflict over Berlin and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization's (NATO) deployment of medium range missiles soon escalates into a conventional war. With NATO forces being driven back, the United States resorts to tactical nuclear weapons, and once the Soviets respond in kind, a full strategic nuclear exchange takes place. The film focuses on a few families, their reactions as the conflict escalates, and their fight for survival in the post-apocalyptic world. They watch as order breaks down among the survivors and see little hope for the future. The movie is very dark and is graphic in its content, especially as it shows the vaporization of human beings.
