TITLEThe Struggle for Nuclear Partnership: Britain, the United States and the Making of an Ambigious Alliance 1952-1959
CITYGroningen, Netherlands

This book examines the cooperation on nuclear issues between the United States and Great Britain during the 1950s. The author treats many issues, including the British desire for atomic interdependence; consultation before using nuclear weapons; negotiations for technical cooperation and the impact of the Suez Crisis and Sputnik on those negotiations; the negotiation for deploying the American Thor missiles in Britain; and lastly the effect of the relationship between the United States and Great Britain on the wider North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) alliance and countries within it, especially France. The book focuses on political relations rather than military planning and looks evenly at the American and the British perspectives.
