This book presents a comprehensive view of the evolution of the Command and Control (C&C) of the nuclear forces of Russia and the former Soviet Union. The book also includes sections contrasting the C&Cs of Russia and the United States, as well as outlining the principles, both political and statistical, behind maintaining deterrence. The author spent a 30 year military career in the Soviet Strategic Rocket Forces and the Soviet General Staff, specializing in nuclear weapons C&C. His explanation of the theory behind C&C is clear and informative. He calls for the governments of the United States and Russia to coordinate their systems to ensure the greatest safety against unauthorized or accidental launches of nuclear weapons.
