This is the official website of the non-governmental organization (NGO), Bellona Foundation, based in Norway. Published in English, Norwegian, and Russian, the website provides information on nuclear energy and other energy and climate change topics. The nuclear page features information on nuclear accidents as well as information on various countries such as the United States of America and Iran. Publication archives are indexed by subject and available as well. Bellona's coverage of Russian nuclear issues is extensive and particularly useful. Established in 1986, the organization initially focused on Norwegian environmental issues. After the Soviet Union dissolved, Bellona turned to investigating the inadequate practices of the Russian Navy and industry regarding the disposal of nuclear reactors and waste, especially on the Kola Peninsula. The organization gained worldwide attention in the mid- and late-1990s defending former Navy Captain Alexander Nikitin against charges of high treason and divulging state secrets in a Bellona report on radiation hazards in the Northern Fleet.
