This photographic essay provides a graphic record of 100 above-ground nuclear tests conducted by the United States from 1945 to 1962. With the exception of Trinity in New Mexico on July 16, 1945, the tests were conducted at the Nevada test site and over the Pacific Ocean. The photographs are drawn from the archives of the United States Army Signal Corps and the 1352nd Photographic Group of the U.S. Air Force. Each photograph is accompanied by text stating the name of the test, the year, and the test's explosive power. A section at the end of the book provides more detailed information on each test. The author's commentary on the photographs and a chronology of events associated with the development, use, production, and testing of nuclear weapons also supplement the collection.
