This photographic essay presents a portrait of the nuclear forces and command centers of the United States. The 85 color photographs taken between 1992 and 2001were made at military bases in the United States and the South Pacific. They present a unique view of the bombers, submarines, and missile systems comprising the nuclear weapons infrastructure of a superpower. The author's prologue and the introduction by Richard Rhodes provide background and context for the photographs.
