The author of this book takes the United States Atomic Energy Commission (AEC) to task over its management of nuclear energy from 1946 to 1971. According to the author, the purpose of the work is to show how the congressional Joint Committee on Atomic Energy, originally established to monitor the AEC, became its advocate. During that period, the author claims that the ACE became a bureaucratic organization that focused much of its effort on inappropriate technology and justification of past mistakes. He presents extensive documentation in the form of footnotes to support his arguments.
