This film about Colonel Paul W. Tibbets, Jr. (played by Robert Taylor) and his mission to lead the dropping of the first atomic bomb is narrated by his wife Lucey (played by Eleanor Parker). While the movie gives some background on Tibbets' flying in North Africa, it focuses on his ambitious efforts and security problems at Wendover, where the B-29s and their crews practiced during the war. It becomes clear that the Colonel's job and the secrecy involved is straining his friendships and especially his marriage, the latter being very obvious from Lucey’s narration. The movie demonstrates the personal stress involved in commanding such a mission.
