This biography describes Edith Warner, who lived during World War II as neighbor to both the Indians of San Ildefonso Pueblo, New Mexico and the brilliant physicists and engineers of Los Alamos. Having moved West from Pennsylvania, she befriended many of the scientists and their wives; her house became a sanctuary for many of them in the tense years before Hiroshima. The book includes an appendix with Christmas letters written by Warner from 1943 to 1950.
