This article details the acquisition of large amounts of uranium oxide required for the Manhattan Project from sources on the Colorado Plateau in southwestern Colorado and southeastern Utah. The majority of the oxide was obtained from the tailings at vanadium mills operating in the region. Geological and mineralogical investigations of uranium deposits in that region are also described.
