This book contains the sumary findings of an official study by a 12-member commission authorized by President Jimmy Carter concerning the Three Mile Island nuclear accident. The commission gives its account of the events and causes of the accident, its assessment of how the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and other agencies reacted, and its recommendations to prevent similar occurrences. The commission recommends necessary fundamental changes in organization, procedures, practices and attitudes of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. Appendices give biographies of the commissioners, list the staff, explain how the commission worked, and contain the executive order for the commission’s creation, and a glossary. The commission produced a summary report and 9 volumes of task force reports, totalling more than 2300 pages.
