This book is a record of research done on the biological effects of polonium, plutonium, and radium for the Manhattan Project and the Atomic Energy Commission (AEC). It contains data from experimental studies by the Biological Chemistry Section of the Division of Radioactivity in the Manhattan Department of the University of Rochester, which tested the effects of radioactive materials on rats. The book is divided into three parts, the first of which describes the distribution and excretion of polonium. The second part addresses the distribution and excretion of radium. Part III compares the toxicities of polonium, radium, and plutonium. Numerous charts and tables are included in the book, which is the third volume in the National Nuclear Energy Series.
