This book provides an early survey of industrial nuclear developments in the Soviet Union and its allied states. There appeared to be three different types of developments within the Soviet Bloc: (1) in the Soviet Union, the spread of nuclear techniques from military to industrial applications; (2) in the Eastern European satellite states, the initiation of nuclear programs in relatively developed areas; (3) in China, a drive for nuclear expansion in a scientifically and technologically backward nation.
