In this autobiography, mathematician Norbert Wiener discusses his life and career from the time he arrived at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1919 up to the time of the book’s writing in the mid-1950s. The book, a sequel to Wiener’s earlier autobiography of his childhood entitled Ex-Prodigy, traces his intellectual development and, using non-technical language, discusses his mathematical and scientific work. Wiener also describes his marriage and family, his studies and work in Europe, and travels around the world, including his time in China, Mexico, and India. He devotes one chapter to the atomic bomb and what he heard about the Manhattan Project during World War II.
